Kid-Friendly Places in Hong Kong

Date Posted: 25/07/2020

The Pandemic has affected many things, but it doesn’t mean we should not look forward to the future. If you are wondering what you can do with your child once this is over, here are some kid-friendly places you should visit. These places will surely not just delight the child, but all members of the family.

Ocean Park

Theme parks are one of the go-to places for kids, especially ones that are accessible by MTR. You can alight directly at Ocean Park Station, and that is where the magic begins. There are a lot of park attractions there, including:

  • Whiskers Harbour
  • Thrill Mountain
  • Marine World
  • Old Hong Kong

There’s also a cable car available which will give you and the kids a bird’s eye view of the park. There are thrilling rides, and animal shows you can look forward to and also get to spend a few minutes with some animals. How awesome is that!

This is the perfect time to have a dolphin, penguin or even a seal encounter. If your kids love animals, they can experience being a zookeeper and give 2 hours to be a panda keeper for the day.

If you have little kids and they get tired after hours of walking, it’s advisable to bring a stroller. If ever you forgot to bring one, you can choose to rent at Aqua City for HKD100 with an additional refundable security deposit of HKD100.

How to get here:

  • Ride the MTR to Ocean Park Station on the South Island Line

Hong Kong Disneyland

Disneyland Park never gets old. Space Mountain roller-coaster would excite you and your whole family for hours. Admittedly, the kids will get entertained. If your kids are also fans of the Marvel franchise, then you can head over to Star Industries. There they can meet Iron Man in-person plus experience Iron Man 4D. This can be an exciting day for someone that’s a fan of Avengers.

How to get there:

  • Ride the MTR going to Disneyland Resort Station on the Disneyland Resort line
  • Or you can also book a private van transfer

Lion Rock Country Park

This hike can be something that kids can do because it’s only 495 metres high. There are family-alternative routes that you can also take. When you reach the top, it’s worth it because you’ll see the breathtaking Kowloon and have a delicious traditional Cantonese meal.

It would be best if you come prepared by bringing water. Hydrate yourself, especially the kids. Wear comfortable shoes that’s good for hiking. The hike can take 4 to five hours, depending on your pace.

How to get there:

  • Take the MTR going to Diamond Hill or Won Tai Sin station
  • Afterwards, ride a taxi to Lion Rock Mountain. This will only take 10 minutes.

Ngong Ping 360

This is a famous tourist attraction. This is a 2-minute walk from Tung Chung MTR Station (Exit B). During the 25-minute cable car ride, you’ll see Lantau Island, Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha), Tai O Village, Ngong Ping Village, Po Lin Monastery, and even Hong Kong International airport.

How to get here:

  • Ride MRT going to Tung Chung Station, Exit B

Tai O Fishing Village

This is a fishing village of traditional houses that are built on stilts. This is the home for the Tanka people and is very different from the city. This will bring a distinct experience for your kids as they spend a day outdoors in the countryside. Your family can enjoy your dinner here to view a beautiful sunset before going to the mainland.

Wherever you choose to go, the important thing is you get to spend time with your kids, especially now that a lot of things have changed. Just remember to be safe always and make sure you’re doing the precautionary measures to protect yourself from any virus.
